TPU PPF Material Fundamentals
TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane): Self repair achieved through dynamic recombination of molecular chains, capable of repairing fine scratches at room temperature and achieving higher repair efficiency at high temperatures (such as above 60 ℃)
PPF (Paint Protection Film): Multi layer polyurethane structure, strong impact resistance, but self-healing ability depends on TPU substrate
Principles of self-healing and thermal repair
Self repair: TPU soft segment molecular chains temporarily shift after scratches, and are restored to their original state through thermal activation (such as sunlight, hot water), repairing scratches ≤ 40 μ m
Thermal repair: requires a high temperature of over 60 ℃ and sufficient molecular chain activity to achieve deep repair, but repeated repair may cause “memory damage”
Technical Comparison and Selection Suggestions
Repair efficiency: TPU can repair quickly at room temperature (3 seconds), while PPF requires high temperature and has low efficiency
Applicable scenarios: TPU is suitable for daily minor damage, PPF is more suitable for high impact environments
Avoiding pitfalls: Poor quality TPU is prone to yellowing, genuine products require verification of anti-counterfeiting codes and professional construction
